Hey guys,

First post here (done plenty of reading -- hopefully enough). Around 2 weeks ago I replaced my older RT-AC1900/AC68U router with a new AC2900/RT-AC86U router and immediately flashed the latest stock firmware followed by Merlin's latest (384.4_2). The behavior I encountered was rather bizarre: after some arbitrary amount of time, the 2.4 GHz radio would stop broadcasting, and all clients would disconnect. Occasionally it would come back, but thereafter, no intranetwork...

Any known issues regarding AC2900/RT-AC86U 2.4 GHz radio malfunction?

So to solve all the problems with installing dnscrypt with entware (or similar) then setting up various scripts to handle dnscrypt-proxy starting up including the ntp issue, I made my own installer for dnscrypt-proxy.

Requirements:
- ARM or MIPSEL based ASUS routers
- asuswrt-merlin firmwares or compatible
- jffs support and script enabled

Incompatibilities:
- No known issue

Adaptive QOS works amazing, but I have decided to tweak it as I have a few issues with it out of the box. Each of these is addressed by my script.

After expending a whole lot of effort, I thought I might be able to block wired IoT smart devices at the port level from being able to access the local network. After reading 24 threads on this website, I cobbled together a script that was similar to what others had created. I think only one of those threads mentioned the same router. The script commands complete successfully, but wired devices can't connect to the router.

Hey there,

Just spent half of today reading through what you guys are doing here, with the Merlin version of the official Asus firmware. Will start with GREAT JOB, Keep it up!

Now, the other half of the day, I've been trying to flash N66U, AC68U, AC56U as well as N16 Merlin distribs to my new RT-N18U, with not much luck. Well, it does start, but hangs badly..

Reading around the forum, my N18U is powered by an BCM47081 ARM CPU, which seems to be a single-core version of the BCM4708 ARM CPU...

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

The former has happened twice this week, and the latter I discovered at the most recent event.
Wireless/professional/ enable radio set to 'off' for both bands.

This is a unit I picked up used, reset to default, and flashed through the stock versions to get to most current.

Not using QoS, but I do have a usb drive (upnp server) to feed to a Roku.

Is there anything specific I should be digging for in my logs?

I have noticed that this unit logs me out pretty quickly.

Asus RT-AC68 Overclock not working

Hi guys,

I'm new to asus routers so please excuse my stupidity however I've been trying to overclock my router to gain a little better OpenVPN performace.

Let me give you some facts first:

EXT4 disk formatting options on the router

Hi. Does anyone know how one can format a USB as ext4 with journaling disabled, from within the router's shell interface? When I've used the disk formatting options it seems to automatically use EXT2. Without getting onto a debate between ext2 vs ext4, does anyone know how ext4 without journaling can be accomplished? I'm doing it remotely so using a linux install on a pc isn't an option unfortunately.

AC86U firewall-start IP logging

Hello all

Just upgraded from an N66 to the AC86u and slammed 384.8_2 on it.

Ive set up some iptables in firewall-start for logging connections but they dont appear to be logging, firewall-start shows its been loaded at boot and doesnt flag any errors but nothing gets logged according to the rules.

Also have settings in the logging page to 'Default Log Level>debug' Log messages more urgent>all'

CD to the right folder

Hello.
I was wondering if someone knows how to cd to the right folder.
To run a sh file?

\\RT-AC88U-EC48\entware\share\www\lighttpd\ths\start.sh

I've tried using cd, to get to the folder, but i can't seem to get away from entware...

I like to manually configure DHCP and therefore for IPv4 I have configured 9.9.9.9 (Quad9) as DNS server and for IPv6 I have 2620:fe::fe (Quad9 IPv6).

ALL my devices correctly receive the following IP settings:
IP: 172.16.0.X
M: /24
DG: 172.16.0.1
DNS: 9.9.9.9

IP: 2001:A:B:C::1001
M: /64
DG: 2001:A:B:C::1
DNS: 2001:A:B:C::1

If everything is configured correctly I should only being using Quad9 as DNS Server,...

Cannot install Merlin on new router - missing upload file button

Picked up a new AC66U B1

it looks like there is no way to upload a firmware file... instead there is only a button to check for the latest and have the router update itself in the background....

How can I install Merlin on this router?

smb.postconf not doing anything

I'm trying to insert some veto rules into my smb.conf file via the following smb.postconf, located at /jffs/scripts/smb.postconf:

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have any effect on the file. I've tested it locally on macOS and it works fine.

German language file on RT-AC 68U 384.8_2

Hi there,
I bought my RT-AC 68U in china, until now everything worked fine. Today I updated the FW from 384.4 to the recent one (384.8_2). After updating (without restoring the factory setup right now) I don't have the option to choose german language. I only have chinese and enlish.
On 384.4 I did have several option concering language including german.

Anybody an idea about this?
