Checking cable modem signal levels through router

I have an RT-N66U. It's currently running 380.70. I recently bought a Motorola MB8600 cable modem. I cannot seem to load the diagnostic page at 192.168.100.1. My internal network is .0.0 and I can ping the IP fine, but cannot load the web page. If I plug directly into port 2 on the modem and assign a 192.168.100.x IP, I can reach the page. I spoke with motorola directly and their answer made my blood boil. I was told, "it doesn't work on some routers". This is complete nonsense since I was...

PC LAN disconnects when transferring files

PC LAN card: Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller
Router: ASUS AC5300
OS: Windows 10

ASUS support have no clue!

I never had a problem transferring files from PC (LAN) to PC (wifi) with my old router. Every time I try to transfer files now, the LAN connection always drops out after about 10-180 seconds. It seems to be with large files.

My drivers are all up to date!

hello, replacing my n66 fork firmware router today with a new ac86u. thoughts on the merlin firmware vs the stock firmware ??
am i able to flash back and forth somehow, meaning asus doesn't lock firmware or anything.
any thoughts or feedback would be great. thank you.

I recently purchased an ASUS RT-AC86U. I was able to successfully set it up and connect all my devices... except for one. Apparently my Sensi WiFi Thermostat has a requirement for Legacy PS Poll, and any router not supporting it is deemed incompatible. Both my ISP modems that I was using (across two different ISP's) had no issues talking to my Sensi... but the ASUS does as it only supports WMM APSD, which is not...

Samba v2.0 not working

Asus RT-AC68U / Merlin 384.7 (same for 384.6)

It really looks like SMB 2.0 does not work as well as 1.0+2.0 option.

It was mentioned here earlier (here), but I observed the same issue on Ubuntu 18.04.1: it is not possible to view shared router HDD with any possible option rather than SMB 1.0. So it is definitely not Windows 10 issue.

Any comments on this?

I have enabled Virtual Server / Port forwarding and added a rule for:

Service Name | Sorce IP | Port Range | Local IP | Local Port
Device Name | WWW.whatsmyip.com| 8880 | 172.16.4.4 | 8880 | TCP

and yet when I try to access this device remotely it isn't available on port 8880. An external port scan also shows that port 8880 is not open. I am having this problem with two AC-5300 in different homes. One on Comcast and the other on ATT....

Asus Download Master Update

Hello!

Now that my recently purchased RT-AC87U is running rock solid for a whole month and I've been able to solve all my issues and wanted tweaks (thanks to Merlyn's FW and this forum's help) , I've reading about Transmission/Entware ir order to improve the weak provided Download Master.

In between, I've found a very old post about downgrading Download Master to a previous more stable version, with a dowload link pointing to asus servers...

Merlin 384.7_beta2 (3?) @ AC68U HDD spindown(sleep) does not work.

When I tried Merlin 384.7_beta2, I was offered a new option of spinning down an attached USB HDD by timeout, as it is regularly done by any user OS.

But for some reason my HDD always spins, regardless of timeout.

HDD: Adata Superior SH02 (SAMSUNG HM502JX) with native USB2 interface.
USB port: blue USB3 port in USB3 mode.
Add-ons: SAMBA, download center. Nothing is downloading, queue is empty. SAMBA is also empty, but in master-browser mode for improving WIN network responsiveness.

Time Scheduling still broken

Hi,

I own an Asus RT88U for a year.
Time scheduling feature does'nt work well, sometimes yes (often after a reboot)...sometimes no (feature becomes stuck quickly).
I did a firmware upgrade to Merlin 384.7 but same issue with this feature.

I tried several things like disable NAT acceleration....
On the Asus web console, parental controls are correctly set (like time scheduling for 5 devices).
Today on my Asus router smartphone app, time scheduling for these devices is empty (so not the same...

VPN Client RT88U - Latest Merlin

Good afternoon (well it is for me)

I have signed up to NordVPN and have the client working (connected) on 387 version of Merlin.

My question is - I want only two of my house hold devices to route via this VPN connection. All others can go via my IPS.

Can this be done? Is it something to do with a route setting? or is there no way to do this.

After spending very long time with the sources, I finally got it to FULLY work with my DSL AC68U, even the DSL connection works now!!!!

Having been using merlin on a RT-AC68U for a while now but I needed some IPSec capabilities so I bought a new (Origin China?) RT-AC86U and installed 384.6 on it c/w reset.

I need to be able to ssh to the router from the internet which I could do on the 68U and I set up the 86U the same to permit LAN+WAN but it keeps reverting back to LAN Only. There is a brief window where it sticks and I can ssh in but it still reverts and I can no longer open new ssh connections.

Is this a known issue?...

Viewing Traffic History from usb drive

Under Tools>Other Settings; I used custom location for traffic history and set to write on my usb drive.

Is there a simple way to view the .gz file from bash?

I tried 'zcat' but the file seemed to print garbage.

Network configuration

I need help in transforming current network configuration to something like what I put on picture bellow.
There is plenty of scripts I found on forum that partially helps but in general when I try to configure it using parts of different scripts for complete setup I got stuck due to lack of experience.
What would be best approach to solving this configuration and do you have some example scripts to share?[​IMG]

SSH connection problem with 5G

Hello,

It seems to be a problem connecting to router through SSH when using a wireless 5Ghz connection. I have an RT-AC66U with 380.69_2 firmware.
With previous firmwares I experienced the same problem.

When using the same SSID for 2,4G and 5G on the router (and my computer is connected to 5G), I cannot connect to router through SSH
The error I am getting from PuTTY is: 'Netwok error: Connection timed out.'
From WinSCP: 'Netwok error: Connection to "192.168.2.1" timed out.'

AiProtection - Do I really need it?

I've noticed with AiProtection enabled it does block a lot of security threats but it does slow down some of my devices such as my DCS-936L and the Netflix client of the Roku sticks. It also does block some services/sites that are not security threats.

With it disabled, I am no longer having any slowdowns on Netflix or having any other issues but then I don't have that extra protection.

I've attached the stats of what AiProtection did when it was enabled.

I don't know if this is even possible or if its beyond the scope of what Asus routers / Merlin firmware is capable of but here we go.

I currently have an ESXi server that is running virtualised pfSense as my router and firewall. I am currently using my ASUS RT-AC3200 as an access point to provide internet to all the wireless devices in my network.

What I want to do is create 5 wireless networks each with its own subnet and IP's that a device can connect to based on what it is. Each SSID...
