AMTM app(s) seem to cause DNS resolving issue [VPN split tunneling setup]

Recently I replaced my n66u for an ac86u. I moved the config quite exactly, including the split tunneling OpenVPN config, where my Synology NAS bypasses the permanent OpenVPN tunnel directly to the WAN (so I can have hasselfree remote access to its apps/webservices).

This worked so far so good before and after the migration, until I installed Diversion/PixelServ/Skynet. After this, the synology couldn't resolve URL's anymore. Inbound connection is ok, I can access the webservices...

hello all,
Here’s some setup details:
I have 1500 / 940 FTTH connection from Bell
I’m bypassing their HomeHub 3000 modem. The GPON is in a tp-link media converter, which is connected by a short cat5e to my rt-ac88u

I’m running the latest, non-beta version of Merlin on it.

It is initiating a PPPoE connection.

I have all the Qos items turned off

CTF is set to “auto”

Im using a 2014 iMac retina, wired Ethernet, with cat5e into LAN1 on the 88u.
Exact specs of iMac are:

Iptables - Max Concurrent Connections

Hi:

I am trying to limit the number of concurrent incoming connections using iptables on Asus-Merlin. I have tried to use 'connlimit' but it does not work. Might be a version issue between iptables and the kernel. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Diversion ad blocking in MS Edge

I hesitate to post this, however, I am at the end of my rope. I had a buddy over and I wanted to show him the exceptional ad blocking with Diversion. By mistake, I fired up IE instead of Chrome and I went to Speednet.net. It was covered with ads. I went to Chrome and there are no ads. I have no ad blockers running on Chome.

I am using the Standard blocking file and I tried Medium with no better luck. Ads are not blocked by the application, they are blocked on the router before any app...

Finally got merlin FW to work on DSL-AC68U

After spending very long time with the sources, I finally got it to FULLY work with my DSL AC68U, even the DSL connection works now!!!!

AiProtection - Do I really need it?

I've noticed with AiProtection enabled it does block a lot of security threats but it does slow down some of my devices such as my DCS-936L and the Netflix client of the Roku sticks. It also does block some services/sites that are not security threats.

With it disabled, I am no longer having any slowdowns on Netflix or having any other issues but then I don't have that extra protection.

I've attached the stats of what AiProtection did when it was enabled.

What Sprint capable USB Modem to use with RT-AC68U

Looking to hook up a Sprint LTE SIM to the RT-AC68U and have it as primary connection, being in the boonies. What device would you recommend? Want it to work when configured as the primary connection, the ASUS compatibility list shows nothing that seems to work with Sprint, though, maybe I have only found an old link.

Just looking for a device that would allow me to use the Sprint LTE sim that I have and that would even support band 41.

I need to setup few vlan on my ac3100
I have done in the past perfectly on a netgear wndr4000 with dd-wrt , just I like the asus web gui interface which give more detail

So I'm looking to configure 5 vlan (excluding the vlan2 which is used for the wan connection)
1: is my personnal network
3: parent network
4: guest network
5: retro network (i want to use the wifi and the lan for some oldschool device )
6: kid
each have is own ip range

Port 1 and 2 -> vlan 1
port 3 -> vlan 1,5,6 (an ubuntu...

[Qns] Entware and AiCloud

Tried searching the forums but couldn't find an answer - if I install Entware, can I still use AiCloud?

Aware that Download Master is Optware based but how about AiCloud?

If I choose to go the Entware route, are there any suggestions on apps that provide similar functions to AiCloud (remote access to router HDD)?

I have set up a daily reboot schedule (02:00) in the gui. But the router does not reboot at all. I read, that there are problems on the AC68 with the reboot schedule. But is it the same with the AC86?

I am running the following:
Merlin WRT (384.7).

I have noticed that the 'Network Services Filter' doesn't work. I tried to block 10.0.0.52 from accessing 10.0.0.4 on all ports, but still connections got through.

I have tried to use jffs folder /jffs/scripts with the script name: run_firewall_rules.sh
I have done chmod 777 on run_firewall_rules.sh, rebooted router and still it doesn't block all traffic.

Get MAC Adresses connected to Access Point

Hi,

I'm currently writing a script to check the MAC presence on the network. However, I'm running into issues because I have an access point and the devices connected to the access point do not directly show up in the main router.

Is there a way to retreive the MAC addresses that are currently connected to the access point?

currently using the following code to retreive and check the MAC addresses:

Samba v2.0 not working

Asus RT-AC68U / Merlin 384.7 (same for 384.6)

It really looks like SMB 2.0 does not work as well as 1.0+2.0 option.

It was mentioned here earlier (here), but I observed the same issue on Ubuntu 18.04.1: it is not possible to view shared router HDD with any possible option rather than SMB 1.0. So it is definitely not Windows 10 issue.

Any comments on this?

I am curious as to whether anyone still has the knockd port-knocking package working in the latest firmwares for added protection of their OpenVPN servers or similar. It appears as though knockd was last spoken about in 2016. We keep taking about ways to reduce the number of attempts on OpenVPN servers. Perhaps using knockd to keep ports closed until required would compliment...

Who uses knockd in 2018 to secure OpenVPN?

Dropbox WAITING status

I suppose all of you saw this, when the status of Dropbox sync is WAITING. Waiting for what? Why?

It happens often for no particular reason. Was anybody able to handle this and to re-initiate the synchronization?
In such I cases I do following: enter pass for AsusCloud storage and press Apply which causes re-sync of both accounts.

So to solve all the problems with installing dnscrypt with entware (or similar) then setting up various scripts to handle dnscrypt-proxy starting up including the ntp issue, I made my own installer for dnscrypt-proxy.

Requirements:
- ARM or MIPSEL based ASUS routers
- asuswrt-merlin firmwares or compatible
- jffs support and script enabled

Incompatibilities:
- No known issue

VLan1 reports 1799486 packets received .... BUT USe no VLAN

A min in routers is that unknown devices should be IDLE

I use PPTP a he tunnel.....
but without my knowledge vlan1 as well. with quite some trafic on it ....(no errors)


This comes with the instalation of AC68U version 386.6


But now I start worring ...... can anyone explai the use of this VLAN and the 412.4 Mib received and the 1.0 Gib transmitted.


Used asus merlin to have things under controll no magic devices !!!
