Force LAN port 4 to use the Guest network for Asus/merlin RT-AC68U

I needed to restrict LAN port#4 for Internet only use, just like the Wireless Guest Network access. Then I plug an 8-port Ethernet switch into LAN port 4 of the RT-AC68U router, to expand the number of Internet-only wired connections. It is for attaching wired network devices that have no business on my local area network, but need to access the Internet.

I got DNScrypt working on my Asus AC-RT68U and im using the Cisco family shield resolver, because i've got kids I want to protect. However, I would prefer to use an OpenNIC resolver, because Cisco logs requests. But I cannot find another resolver that has an equivalent of Family Shield. So, my question is, can I not just configure an OpenNIC resolver that dosn't filter anything (which I have done and it works fine), and then just paste in e.g. MVP's Hostsfile into the routers hosts file...

Rt-ac68 with a bad wan port

I just bought a used rt-ac68r that turned out to have a non functioning wan port.
I've installed dd-wrt on it and assigned one of the lan ports to be the wan port.
Since I only have one hard wired pc to it, I don't need all 4 lan ports.

I was curious if there is a way to do this with RMerlin firmware? If there isn't is it something that could be added in the future?

I guess I'm hoping Eric can answer that. Tia.

Hey all,

I am new and glad to be here. Let me give a brief description of my issue.

I have an RT-AC88U Router that is setup in Wireless Router Mode. My RT-AC88U connects to my ISP router via the WAN port, so it is in a LAN-WAN configuration. I am currently running Merlin 380.62 Beta 1.

My issue is that when I use OpenVPN with an Overclocked CPU and RAM, my router really struggles and both cores on the CPU show massive usage even when there is nothing happening. I ran a Speedtest while...

NTP Server

I know this has probably been asked before, but I wanted to know if it would be possible to run a NTP server for local network/subnet access only using Merlin's firmware build? I have a few linux machines that I am able to modify the ntp.conf file for listening for NTP broadcasts locally only and would like them to be able to sync with my router.

slow 3g connect after power outages

I'm using merlins latest 380.61 on my rt-ac68u and a sierra 320u 3g modem as my only isp. Works great, even when isp (telstra) reconnects every day or so, however if we have a power outage the modem can take an hour or two to successfully reconnect. Anyone have any tips on how I should go about finding what's causing this? I'm familiar with command line/ssh - being a Linux user..

Hello community,

since Merlin version 380.58 (20-Mar-2016) there is a function in "Tools -> Other Settings" that should do the following: "One of new settings there lets you disable hourly network rescans, to resolve issues with NAS/printers coming out of sleep every hour" (from Changelog). I installed Merlin on my Asus RT-AC68U to activate that function cause my homeserver is waking up every hour since I got the ASUS router. But I cant

This will be a little package that provides a real Network Time Protocol daemon for your Merlin router and perhaps ASUSWRT too. It will keep your router's clock more accurate than you possibly ever want.

Why bother using it over the stock? Because it uses much less RAM than the NTP shipped in current ASUSWRT or Merlin and yet does much more and doing in a proper way.

Asuswrt-Merlin 380.62 is now available for all supported models.

The focus of this release is bug fixing and various webui tweaks and improvements. There is no new GPL code and no new driver in this release.

A factory default reset is not needed if coming from a recent version (380.60 or newer). Your mileage may vary with anything older than that.

Ping Latency when connected to RT-AC3200 ethernet

I'm running Merlin's 380.61 firmware
I have a PC connected by wired ethernet to one of the AC3200's LAN ports. Lately I've been seeing a lot of lag in accessing websites.

Speedtest.net shows downloads of 25Mbps, which is good, but ping is in the range 800 to 1100 ms, which is very bad.

I connected the ethernet cable directly between the cable modem and PC. It gives me same download speed but ping = 9 to 10 ms

Surely, something is throttling pings when I'm connected through the router.

How to configure a firewall to connect to the computer via RDP connected by a "guest network" - off intranet. When the function is disabled access to the intranet you can not connect RDP.

strange device name in device list

I am seeing a strange device name when I look at the device list on my AC56U running Merlin 380.58. According to the devices IP address on the device list the correct name should be "supercomputer", the desktop I am using to write this post with. My "supercomputer" is showing as "minint-82rvtlv". This computer is running Ubuntu Mate 16.04 on one HD and Windows 10 on another HD. Is this name change a sign of infection?

delay start of transmission to wait for the USB disk mount

So I am currently on asus merlin
After every reboot transmission gives me a error unable to locate the files which vanishes as soon as i click on resume
I was wondering if it is possible to delay transmission startup by a few seconds allowing enough time for my disk to mount

Hello,
I just flashed the firmware to be able to use selective policy based openvpn client connection.

I noticed that the vpn username after applying the settings comes back to router admin user name and password, is this a bug? in the instance if the connection is broken and it tries to connect again it will use the default admin user but not the vpn user..this is a problem. can this be fixed?

Also, once the connection is established I see this IP/Routing conflict as status but in...

Hi and first of all again ty for your great work on this alt firmware :=)
My question is regarding assigning static IP adresses. Its not the assigning itself thats the problem.
After i have assigned all IP adresses in the HDCP - Manually asigned IP adresses the IP-clients should take this if they are DHCP controlled. BUt in my case for example my Sonos speakers doesnt take the new IP that i assigned. They still go with the old DHCP assigned IP.

I have some general questions regarding AUS Merlin Firmware Features -

1. What is "Hide DHCP/RA queries"
2. What is Enable DNSSEC support
3. When should this be used - Spoof LAN TTL value
4. NAT Loopback - What is the difference between Merlin and Asus?
5. What are the differences between sfq, codel fq, and_codel?

I am using an Rt-AC3200 for Video (mainly Youtube), XBOX 1, PC Gaming, Web Browsing and work VPN access.

Please suggest what you would recommend for these settings...

Can't use OpenDNS and google forcesafesearch simultaneously

I can't seem to get the two of them to work simultanously. I've gone through the post here:

I created dnsmasq.conf.add and hosts.add files to forcesafesearch as described. On it's own it works fine: when I nslookup google, it points to 216.239.38.120, and the log files show that the .add files are being appended.

When I try to point to OpenDNS, either via the DNSFiltering control or the LAN>DHCP>DNS Server...
