I am pleased to announce the release of CakeQOS-Merlin!

CakeQOS-Merlin is a custom add-on for supported Asus routers with Merlin firmware that introduces CAKE QoS as an alternative to Traditional/Adaptive/FreshJR implementations.

My router's IP is 192.168.50.1. If I log on the route, `curl` and `dig` works well. So the router does have Internet access. But on my laptop that is connected to the router. Every DNS lookup failed with timeout. However `telnet 192.168.50.1 53` returns success. If I changed `/etc/resolve.conf` to `192.168.1.2` which is the IP of the modem AC88U is connected to. DNS query on laptop became OK. Does anyone encounter this issue before. I tried running `tcpdump` on AC88U, but it just got...

Replace AC68U with AC66U_B1

I have an AC68U at a remote site that seems to have a 2.4 GHZ radio failing. I have an AC66U_B1 that I want to set up in advance for a speedy changeover. Both run Merlin 384.18 and have the same processor, ARM7 rev 0 (v71).
Will I be successful taking backups of the AC68U and applying them to the AC66U_B1? Am not running Entware or anything on a USB.

Issue with Parental Control - Time Scheduling

Time scheduling does not work anymore for some clients, however, it still works for others. It had been working fine for quite some time before that.
Those problematic clients connect via wifi (not sure this is a factor, their are Android phones so I cannot test them with a wired connection). As soon as time scheduling is enabled, their internet Connection is blocked, regardless of the time of the day. Even if the time management schedule is edited to allow every hours of every day, internet...

Which version of QoS to use for gaming

I just recently bought an Asus 86U and was wondering what version of QoS I should use to get the best performance while gaming. I'm currently using the latest Merlin firmware.

My internet speeds are 350 down and 35. I've heard of Cake which seems to be pretty good but have no idea how to install it. I've also heard for my speeds I might just be better off not using QoS at all. I've tried Merlins adaptive QoS with fq_codel and using manual bandwidth settings but I noticed I got pretty high...

[SOLVED] High nvram usage

I was playing with my RT-AC56U running RMerlin 384.5 and I noticed by accident that the nvram usage is a bit high:

NVRAM usage: 65545 / 65536 bytes
It seems I am 9 bytes over the limit and yet the router *appears* to be running fine. I do use long wifi passwords, have 30+ static dhcp bindings and about 10 openvpn accounts with long random passwords as well.

Should I attempt to do some manual cleanup? Does my unit have more than 64k NVRAM?

Nest Protect cannot connect with DoT enabled - RT-AX88U 384.18

After updating to 384.18, all 8 of my Nest Protect devices went offline, and I was unable to add any new Protect devices onto my account. I have one 2nd Gen and the rest 1st Gen. I went through all troubleshooting, and finally after totally disabling DoT, they were able to connect and I could add new devices again.

What I tried:

- DoT with Quad 9 (ipv4 and ipv6 servers)
- DoT with Cloudflare (ipv4 and ipv6 servers)
- Disable "Prevent client auto DoH"
- Profile as both Strict and...

I signed up to ExpressVPN this week where their knowledge with Merlin is limited. Apart from this enquiry, their live support is fantastic with no waiting times.

I found information about setting up a VPN with a kill switch here.

I migrated / updated to the latest Merlin WRT (384.17)

Right after this I had some trouble with my PC (Asus PCE 88 Card), and some Apple devices as well as my Mate 20 Pro. These hickups went by.

However the Mate 20 Pro keeps making problems, in that way, that it connects to 4G or shows Wifi signal, but no internet (Wifi+ is disbaled). Connecting via Asus App aint possible. Since I made a few tweeks (like DNS filtering), I decactivated them, and still had the problems. Now I have...

100% cpu usage on core 1 of AC88U

Hello,

I've been using the Merlin firmware for my router for quite a while now, and just today I noticed that core 1 on my Asus AC88U is pegged at 100% all of the time, and restarting the router does not solve the issue. This must have started in the last week, because I updated to the newest firmware about a week ago, and the router was not having this issue.

Is there a way to see what is using the processor in the router (similar to task manager)? The only thing I've done recently was...

Lower Speeds at 2.4

Hi..
I have an RT-68P router with the latest firmware. My internet speeds are 50/6.

I’ve noticed that after the recent updates, I am no longer reaching 50 Mbps when connected to the 2.4 wifi. If I connect to the 5ghz then I get over 50.

I wonder what’s changed...why I can no longer even reach 40 on the 2.4 anymore, even standing next to the router...it was fine before until I updated the firmware a couple of firmwares ago.

Hi - somewhat of a newbie here and first time poster. I have an odd problem that I have not found a continuous thread on (just sporadic mention) despite deep searching.
Issue is this: After I upgraded to .15 release for Merlin, I can only get into my router via certain endpoints, e.g. works on my phone (via wifi and browser, not the app) and hard connected PC, but not on my iPad or laptop (via wifi) - although it used to work from ANY endpoint before I upgraded. Hardware question - keep or recycle?

I'm getting ready to move. My old AC3100 doesn't seem to boot far enough to issue an IP address so I can SSH in / get a GUI. Are there any options for some kind of OS access prior to that stage, or is this thing bricked? (Like, I think some routers have a serial port inside the case / not normally accessible...)
