Hi guys,

Firmware Version:384.13_beta1-g73181bd3ae

I have been running Asus Merlin for a long time on my AC86U with no issues, i run a OPENVPN with selected policy routing and by default i had all traffic set to go through the vpn as below.

VPN 192.168.1.0/24 and 0.0.0.0 and VPN

I did an update by accident which looks to have wiped out all my settings, now when i redo the VPN i can get it to connect to the VPN and get...

Multi VLAN/subnet with OpenVPN

Hi, I have a question around multi-subnet environment and routing via OpenVPN on Merlin.

I have a few internal networks for desktop, vms and wifi clients that go out the internet via an AC-88U running Merlin. Subnet addresses are- 10.1.1.0/24 (desktop), 10.1.2.0/24 (vms) etc. I have static routes applied on the Asus router to tell it where the networks live. The question I have is- can I configure specific /32 address from all 3 networks to go out via a specific openvpn tunnel via the Asus...

So to solve all the problems with installing dnscrypt with entware (or similar) then setting up various scripts to handle dnscrypt-proxy starting up including the ntp issue, I made my own installer for dnscrypt-proxy.

Requirements:
- ARM or MIPSEL based ASUS routers
- asuswrt-merlin firmwares or compatible
- jffs support and script enabled

Incompatibilities:
- No known issue

Current features:

I have beeen a devout Merlin WRT user for easily 5-6 years now after being so royally disappointed at how ASUS factory firmware is so obtuse and arcane for reasons never fully understood, and that's not to mention frequent from stability issues. Melin's work made going that route a no brainer because his work is pretty amazing. That was when I had a 1 BR apartment with one router

Now I have a 4 floor townhouse (don't be jealous- it's like a Habitrail) where I need two may three access...

Firewall: Drop IPv6 neighbour solicitation broadcasts

Today I switched back over to Merlin 384.13 to test some things and was reviewing my restored settings and saw that on Tools / Other Settings I had once enabled "Firewall: Drop IPv6 neighbour solicitation broadcasts (default: No)" since I am on Comcast/Xfinity. I believe I once saw a bunch of IPv6 traffic in tcpdump on the WAN interface, so decided to try this.

To get to the point, I went looking to see what this setting does, and expected to find an ip6tables rule in the mangle table, but...

Wireless router mode + disabled WAN

Hello everyone,

I have an AC68U in "Wireless Router" mode (sw_mode=1) with the WAN interface disabled. Why not just use "Access Point" mode? --> I want GUI access to OpenVPN client configuration (among others... here's the full story for those interested).

Furthermore, I've added the WAN interface (Port 0) to the LAN bridge. As far as I've been able to figure out, that can't be done via the GUI, only via command...

============================

This is an LTS (Long Term Service) fork of Asuswrt-Merlin based on 374.43_2. This older code base has a history of being very stable, and some of the older code components may perform better in some environments. It may be a good choice for those who desire a 'set it and forget it' router solution. Additional information on the differences...

High android wifi related wakelocks

Ever since I started using my 86u (be it official or asus Merlin FW) my Android phones are being kept awake due to high wifi wakelocks confirmed by using BBS. I'm suspecting different settings but dunno if or how they affect wifi performance. First I think aicloud is broadcasting packets to all devices but I want to be able to mount the USB shared hdds on networks to be able to stream on my network. If I disabled it would I still able to use the NAS functionality?

Selectively route LAN clients, website or streaming media traffic over the WAN or OpenVPN client interfaces on Asuswrt-Merlin firmware using IPSET lists.

Project Development
I used Amazon Prime, BBC, CBS All Access, Hulu, Netflix and Sling streaming media services in developing the project and include them in the usage examples on the x3mRouting GitHub repository.

Separated network for smarthome/IoT devices - Is a little modified Guest network enough?

Hi there! :)

I have an Asus RT-AC68U which have asusuwrt-merlin on it, and have some IoT devices (led-strip controller, air consitioneer, etc, amazon echo, harmony hub, connected all via 2.4GHz wifi) and computers/nas/smartphones (connected via ethernet and 5GHz wifi), and now I will install an Access point (Netgear wac124) instead of my non-smart switch.
What would be the easiest way to make my network a little more secure?

The smarthome devices need to see the internet and each other,...

i have put config in dnsmasq.conf as discribed below:
server=/bin.entware.net/8.8.8.8
ipset=/bin.entware.net/proxy

after i using some cmd like 'nslook or ping' through ssh tty, no ip appears in ipset proxy.
but other clients in local lan through the router, that works fine, correct address appears in proxy set.

how can i get that works for the router?

Directing only DNS over VPN?

Just wondering if this is reasonably simple to do? I'm currently running dnsmasq to point specific domains over specific DNS IP's. Everything else goes over another DNS IP address set at the WAN configuration level.

Is it possible to have a VPN client up and running and point all DNS traffic only towards the VPN?

Better still, could you point some DNS lookups to one VPN client and others to another VPN client while having everything else go through the main WAN DNS IP's?

RT-AC66U mediabridge 5GHz not available

Hi
I am trying to setup my RT-AC66U in mediabridge mode. Unfortunately it does not connect over 5GHz band (2.4 GHz is fine). The GUI does not show up any 5GHz networks while scanning networks. Entering the 5GHz band manually doesn't work either.

Is this a hardware or a software limitation? I have asuswrt-merlin v. 380.70 installed on the device.
Thanks

Yesterday my certificate expired, The date said 2019/10/6, but it did not autoupdate, I tried to restart my router but It still said 2019/10/6. Then i tried to disable lets encrypt in the gui, and re enable it again, then it got a certificate that says it's expire on 2029/10/7 ?? But if i try to reach my host it still says certificate not valid.
If i Restart the router again, it's back to 2019/10/6. Very weird behaviour, I'm upgraded some weeks ago to 384.13_1 I have a RT-AC87U.

Hi,

I want to trigger a bash script on the router, without logging in. To turn the vpn_client on or off (not event based, but just when I want).
What are the options, without running cru jobs very often ?

Is this possible ?

I finally got the OpenVPN Server on my RT-88U router to host my Chromebook (ASUS C300) now that I'm running Merlin V384.6. That Chromebook does not (yet, anyway) support Android apps, so you're on your own with VPN.

The steps to configure the router and the Chromebook are as follows and please refer to the links for some more background, context, and direction.

Generally, the process is to set up the OpenVPN server on the router, import user and authority certificates into the Chromebook,...
