Lets Encrypt not updating, or?

Yesterday my certificate expired, The date said 2019/10/6, but it did not autoupdate, I tried to restart my router but It still said 2019/10/6. Then i tried to disable lets encrypt in the gui, and re enable it again, then it got a certificate that says it's expire on 2029/10/7 ?? But if i try to reach my host it still says certificate not valid.
If i Restart the router again, it's back to 2019/10/6. Very weird behaviour, I'm upgraded some weeks ago to 384.13_1 I have a RT-AC87U.

Hello Snb community !

I am new to Routers, Assus and Merlin, If i may I have a question for the community.

I understand how to locate and Install software both official and Merlin But in what order.......
I will be receiving my new RT-AC86U this morning here is what i am going to do, please correct me if I'm wrong.

1) Update the 86U with the official software update first through the 86U user control panel.

2) Then reset the unit to a default state

Ever since I started using my 86u (be it official or asus Merlin FW) my Android phones are being kept awake due to high wifi wakelocks confirmed by using BBS. I'm suspecting different settings but dunno if or how they affect wifi performance. First I think aicloud is broadcasting packets to all devices but I want to be able to mount the USB shared hdds on networks to be able to stream on my network. If I disabled it would I still able to use the NAS functionality?

IP leak when using download master

Hi Everyone,
I have a router ASUS RT-AC68U and since a few months I use Merlin firmware. I presently use the latest version RT-AC68U_384.13_0

and I have OPEN VPN directly set up on it.
However when I use the build-in application Download Master for torrents, my real IP is leaked.
I can see it on https://ipleak.net/ > torrent address detection. And when I did not use Merlin I did not have this issue. This occurs only with this torrent application, for firefox and so on the IP...

Running out of nvram

N66U: bl_version 1.0.1.9

Not sure what the proper way to check is, but it looks like I've got 64K of nvram -

nvram show 2> /dev/null | wc -c
65514
And that's not enough. It's full, and new changes are causing data to be lost.

Is there a way to increase nvram? 256K would be nice.

I've also got an AC68U: bl_version 1.1.1.2. I haven't yet started pushing the limits of nvram, but what should I expect with that?

Suggestions: Proxy Server with Authentication

Hello

We were planning to run tinyproxy via entware on the AC87U, however the package is outdated (1.8.3) and does not support basicAuth. Releases from 1.10.xx does support basicAuth, yet I have no idea how to start compiling the package on my own.

That said, does anyone have tips how to achieve such proxy setup with AC87U?

Here are few ideas and shortfalls of such:

1. VPS acting as tinyproxy host (running latest package) and routing traffic via VPN tunnel to AC87U, effectively using...

Hi,

Yesterday I had a router crash and ended up redoing everything from scratch. It's now up and running as before, except for the OVPN. The OVPN server is running on the router and I can connect to it from a client (phone). However I'm unable to use the internet via the VPN. What I want is to be able to surf on my phone as if I were at home, taking advantage of the adblocking by Diversion. This used to work, but now it doesn't :(.

Question about DNS settings

Greetings,

In the Merlin firmware, into tools/other settings, we have this option:

"Wan: Use local caching DNS server as system resolver (default: No)"

Does it mean that, if enabled, the router acts as a DNS proxy (and does not when disabled) ?


I get consistently better results in DNS Benchmark with this option disabled. Is this tool still reliable ?

In the coming weeks, Mozilla will be enabling DoH by default in Firefox (starting with US-based users). While it can still be manually enabled/disabled, this opt-out behaviour is unacceptable IMHO. For starter, it means that by default, your browser will ignore whatever configuration you have made on your network (if using DNS over TLS at the router level, for example).

Firefox looks for a certain canary domain to disable that automatic feature when using, for example, a parental or ad...

Hi there,
This thread is about GNUton's Merlin builds for DSL devices.

* A few words about how this project started:
Some days back I bought a DSL-AC68U. I got a used one for 40 euros. As far as I know, this devices is pretty much as an RT-AC68U but it sells cheaper because... maybe... there is no custom firmware for it, so people think they are worse.
Then I decided to make an experiment, let's see how much the price of these devices will be once people will know that there are Asus...

Disappointing DNSSEC coverage

I've been using DNSSEC with Stubby and was curious about how often I'm "protected" by DNSSEC. Since I run Diversion with logging, I scanned my dnsmasq logs for the number of INSECURE, SECURE or BOGUS results. I was very disappointed to see that most of my home's queries were INSECURE, and only a small handful SECURE.

This is probably a skewed sample because I run Diversion and any other shady domain names were probably blocked before being forwarded for DNSSEC validation, so I wasn't...

pixelserv https certificate issue on iOS

Hi all, i made a pixelserv https certificate because it looks like letsencypt is borked. I am able to get the https working my laptop outside the network, but when i try to use my phone, i get the unsecure https prompt. I have the pixelserv certificate in my profile already.

Any ideas?

Hi

I copied/pasted verbatim, the CF example script (here) to update my "A" record.

Edited the respective areas, placed it in my jffs/scripts folder and set it's permissions executable. Now in the logs it says it's failing:

Internet Status: Disconnected?

Just wondering if anyone has come across this issue.

I’ve seen this message of Internet Status: Disconnected a couple times now under Network Map. When I get this message, there are no entries in my log. Shouldn’t there be some log entries, if the connection goes down or even entries showing the router trying to reconnect?

I then reboot the modem and I’m connected again. I have a plain setup in Merlin, other than running DoT. Is there a setting I’m missing somewhere that could be causing...

I'm working on a script to limit my kid's computer time.

For now, this is the part of the script that kicks him off when his time is up:

    nvram set MULTIFILTER_ENABLE='2>2>0'
    # commit the change
    nvram commit
    # restart the firewall to block new connections
    service restart_firewall > /dev/null
    # restart wireless to close existing connections

This works, but... restarting...
