I setup an openVPN connection on my RT-AC88U (380.68_4) to a Private Internet Access server in TX.

While my router is connected and a speedtest.net test to a server in Dallas, I get 20/11 speeds.
When I do a test to the same server without VPN or with the Windows client connectioned to a TX server, I get 100/11.

I followed their DD-WRT setup guide and the setup uses UDP and 128-bit AES.

I know a router shouldn't be expected to run a line speed for VPN, but is 20% of maximum normal?

Hi,
I bought the above mentioned Router (ROG/GT-AC5300).
But I havn't seen that this device has no VPN integrated.

Therefore I would like to ask if it would be possible to flash the router with "Asuswert-Merlin" and get VPN support???
I am not sure if there is a special reason not to have VPN support integrated (for me important was the 8 LAN-ports existing instead of only 4).

So we have Comcast Business internet and a block of static public IPs that we assign to different firwewalls or servers on our network.

I am trying to use the AC88U to filter and monitor web traffic for our generic wifi internet access and our web proxy.

Things are set up like this:

Gateway sits at the front, then the Asus WAN plugs into the gateway's LAN. I set up the Asus WAN IP to be static and on the subnet of the gateway (10.1.10.101 let's say).

I work from home and with the holiday coming up the kid will likely be gaming and streaming and all that jazz. I've wondered in the past but never asked... is there a way to prioritize my work VPN traffic above everything else? I currently have "Others" as the highest priority but I'm unsure if that's correct. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

I have a very weird problem on my RT-AC68u running merlin 380.69. This happened in 380.68_4 as well, I thought upgrading might fix it but no luck.

The weird part is this problem only occurs when I have my Sonos Play:1 connected via 2.4Ghz wifi!

With the Sonos connected, I get ksoftirqd consuming 100% CPU on cpu0 when I run a speedtest, but ONLY when downloading. This limits my download speed to 350Mbps while my uploads are ~930Mbps as they should be. Yes, I confirmed that NAT acceleration...

I've used Merlin on my RTN66U for a few years and recently updated to 380.68_4. That may be unrelated. My setup is, ASUS router connected to COMCAST modem.

Now, once a day, but not at the same time, it loses internet connectivity. I have swapped the port used on the comcast modem. No change - once that day, same thing.

I pulled the ethernet from the ASUS, waited a few seconds and put it back in, and it detects OK and comes back up. Internet restored! Does that mean its the actual...

I did a factory reset and now i can't connect to the server. I can see the folders in windows explorer and start and stop transmission in Putty. When I try to load the GUI in chrome it says it can't connect to the server?

Any ideas on getting chrome talking to the server?

Hello everyone,

I have made a VPN tunnel between two routers with TAP interface. It worked fine, but with DNS and DHCP servers (two Synology NAS with DCHP and DNS servers on both networks), I decided to change to TUN. The reason was that the DCHP server of the server network was the one that gave the ip addresses in the client's network and redirected me to the server dns of the server's network and I did not like that.

Internet --- ISP Router (192.168.1.1)---(192.168.1.2) (Wan port)ASUS (Lan)(192.168.0.1) --- Devices

I have an RT-68U router, with DD-WRT r34080.
I just can't manage to flush stock Asus firmware nor Merlin firmware.
Renaming .trx to .bin and flush on the GUI doesn't work. The Asus recovery tool (hard to find) keep telling me the router is not in recovery mode (which it is).

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Is it possible to set my RT-AC66 that is running as an Access Point to have a Guest password so temporary guests don't have my real password but can use the wifi for an hour?

I tried to enable guest in the GUI and can WIFI connect, but I just see the Asus sending UDP packets from/to port 9999 on 255.255.255.255 on my local network. I don't know what that is doing.

The guest would need access to the local network to be issued a DHCP address and have their packets routed to/from the...

Hello all. New to these forums and ASUS WRT Merlin firmware, and I got to say, so far I am loving it. I own a RT-AC1750 router and decided to install the custom firmware (RT-AC66U_380.69_0.zip package) due to the fact that my internet connection kept getting reset while using the latest custom firmware. So I have a little problem. I use my cable TV service to watch TV while on the road. But some of the channels will not allow someone to watch live TV unless connected to the local network. So while I was in the States, I set up an OpenVPN server and downloaded the certificate. When I was out of the house, all I had to do was start an OpenVPN connection into my RT-N66U and the "not on local network" restriction was gone.

Now I'm sitting here in Thailand, and the exact same procedure does...

I have researched a lot into how to separate the wireless from the lan subnet, and have the wireless at the same time on a different vlan, but all I can find is people asking to use their router as a switch having separate vlans on the ports.
