RT-AC66U - During heavy download CPU maxes & WiFi fails - is this normal?

I bought this RT-AC66U from eBay in Dec 2015 and it's been my main router and WiFi in my house. I used in for a few weeks on the standard Asus FW before installing Merlin on it.

I've been generally very pleased with the router. I have set up parental controls to stop internet for certain devices from 9pm to 6am. Other than that I have not made many changes to the settings.

After expending a whole lot of effort, I thought I might be able to block wired IoT smart devices at the port level from being able to access the local network. After reading 24 threads on this website, I cobbled together a script that was similar to what others had created. I think only one of those threads mentioned the same router. The script commands complete successfully, but wired devices can't connect to the router.

Hello all,

I am trying to get Hggomes latest and greatest firmware. I PM'd and emailed him last weekend with no response.

I saw that he had a 380.65 on his latest text file, but of course he won't post the firmware and in the past I always had to email him, but this time it seems he maybe way for awhile or for good?

100% cpu usage on core 1 of AC88U

Hello,

I've been using the Merlin firmware for my router for quite a while now, and just today I noticed that core 1 on my Asus AC88U is pegged at 100% all of the time, and restarting the router does not solve the issue. This must have started in the last week, because I updated to the newest firmware about a week ago, and the router was not having this issue.

Is there a way to see what is using the processor in the router (similar to task manager)? The only thing I've done recently was...

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Asus 4G-AC68U or 4G-AC55U is supported by Asuswrt-Merlin (this is the model that has a built in sim card slot)?

Basically, I want to use the Asus 4G-AC68U with a 4G/LTE data sim as the primary WAN - the area I'm in there is no other way to get internet.

Hi,

Years ago I got one of the Sprint SP-AC2015 routers which is just a RT-AC66U. I flashed Merlin on it and it has been running fine. I kept the firmware up to date until 380.59 and got lazy and haven't updated it since then. I am wanting to get back up to date but I see that there are different updates for the AC66U depending on the revision. I don't remember there being different revisions back when I first flashed it but I'm sure there were.

Since this is a Sprint router and doesn't...

Any way to view RT-AC66U (Sprint SP-AC2015) revision version from command line?

VPN Client policy based routing not working

System: ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U 380.68-4
Gateway IP: 192.168.10.1
Asus Router subnet: 192.168.20.0/24
VPN subnet: 192.168.30.0/24 (the Asus is connected as a client)

Using VPN Client and Redirect Internet Traffic option, I'm trying to redirect the host 192.168.20.251/32 over the VPN 192.168.30.0/24.

What I expect: the traffic coming from .251 is forwarded over the VPN.
What I see: the traffic is forwarded through my gateway and leaks my ISP IP.

NVRAM Variable not updating.

Hello All,

Ok so I'm using a sendmail script to email me every time by OpenVPN instance is connected and I use this string " nvram get vpn_client1_rip " to get my VPN public IP but the problem is that variable is not updating on its own when the router connects to OpenVPN and I receive an empty field in my email where it should show IP address.

I did some testing and what I find out is that variable is only updating when I go to the routers OpenVPN statistics page and after...

i use the ios openvpn app to connect to my router, this was working fine with my old setup using rt-n66u but since i have transfered over to the AC86U i keep getting an error in the ios app no matter what settings i use in the config of the open vpn server. The error i keep getting in the app is:

"openvpn error: polarSSL: error parsing ca certificate : X509 - the CRT/CRL/CSR format is invalid, eg different type expected"

RTN66U web inteface ultra slow with VPN enabled

So basically I configure OpenVPN using PureVPN ovpn file and when I turn on the VPN, everything works.. speeds are fine on connected clients, but when I use the router web interface, and click the VPN tab, it takes literally 30 to 45 seconds to load the page. If I go anywhere else on the router UI it's fine.. only on clicking VPN tab.. ideas?

i just wanted to say that i found this site after trying to find a solution to errors i encountered while trying to run "firewall-start" scripts from the Asus-Merlin Wiki.
i actually have almost 0 experience with the commandline interface so i pretty much got stuck on the first step after SSH'ing into the router. (how to create a script file. lol)

Model: RT-AC68R (ipset v6 / arm v7l)

Backing up USB drive to Mega cloud storage

Can someone suggest a solution to backup the files from USB-connected storage (serving as household network storage) to Mega cloud storage? It looks like there are some tools already like megacmd , but I don't see it in entware and I'm not savvy enough in Linux to put it to work without it.

I can back it up using Mega's Windows client, but it would be better to have it right on the router.

Hello Folks,

since two weeks I have two vDSL connections at home, both the same speed: 50/10Mbit. I use the Dual WAN function of my ASUS RT-AC87U, so WAN1 is connected to the WAN Port, WAN2 to LAN2 (for some reason I cannot use LAN1, maybe someone could tell me why).
I use load balancing as Dual WAN option and my idea is to spread all clients with routing rules even to each WAN. I do this because Dual WAN makes it almost impossible to browse the internet or use services like Skype, Facetime...

Hi,

I have problem with my router RT-AC1900P (with RT-AC68U merlin version), I installed transmission, web ui is ok, port is open but no seed at all. Download is fine with pretty nice speed.

Any idea why? Thanks!

Asus RT-n66u as music player

Hi!

Today I made a music player out of my Asus RT-n66u and that's how I did it:
1) Compiled Merlin's firmware to get appropriate kernel modules for sound support;
2) Loaded those modules;
3) Connected USB speakers (with integrated sound card of course);
4) Installed and configured MPD;
5) Profit!

ATTENTION: You would need entware to do this!
But, I guess if you have some linux experience, then you could do it with optware too. :)

UPnP Media Server - File size limit?

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the Media Server option has a file size limit?

I've shared my HDD using this option, so I can watch some 4k movies that I've downloaded using the Download Master, and it works really well... but I've noticed that when the files are >50Gb, the folder of that movie shows empty (tested on my TV and on my Windows 10 machine). Files <50Gb shows and plays normally.

If this is really a limit of the service, there's any way to increase it?
