USB tether to MerlinWRT on Asus RT-N66U

I have a phone I'd like to usb tether to my RT-N66U and I'm having trouble. Using the built in tethering app it seems to begin the process of registering but during that time the USB tethering of the phone shuts off. I've looked into the EasyTether app and there is a way to install the app onto an OpenWRT router. Is that something I can look at for Merlin? Should I just flash over to an OpenWRT firmware and try? I'm open to any suggestions and would love to get this running. It runs...

I love what @RMerlin has done for the Asus Router community and have been reading through the forums to get a grasp on advanced features and capabilities and I have seen a couple of things talking about Forks of the original Merlin/Asus Firmware.

Can anyone elaborate what the options are available and what each offers over the base Merlin Builds?

HELP Wan restriction on asus RT-n68u merlin firmware

I have a asus router and really like it i just have one problem i don't know if it is possible to do a ip Restriction on the wan interface.
I have tried to do it in the gui and it works but a little to good it blocks my entire lan from access the web-gui of my router.
Is there a specific line i can add so it tells the firewall that the lan side is ok but every outside ip address that is not listet on the list should be blocked.
I have seached the forums with no luck of finding a answer.

Asus Rt-AC68U cannot keep up

Hi,
I've recently upgraded to 100 mbps down and 10 mbps up internet connection (FTTH). speedtest shows around 90-100 mbps using ethernet. I have an RT-AC68U running .55 merlin in AP mode . i am able to get only 60 mbps on wireless (including 5ghz). I do the test in the same room with the AP. Are there any settings i can play with ? I am sure this kinda problems has been addressed before. So if you can point me in the right direction that'd be great.

USB Printing problem?

I'm not sure it the firmware I use, but I discovered that none of the devices in the network can print to the Samsung USB Laserprinter.

What I have so far:
Reconnect USB cables
Full reboot of all devices
Reinstall drivers on Mac
Recreated printer queues on Mac

The log shows it connects the printer, however nothing is sent when printer through de LPRServer queue.
On the client side it seems to get stuck on "Connected to printer"

Anybody some pointers? Similar issues?

Traffic Monitor (Bogus Network Traffic Spikes) [SOLVED]

I'm running the latest firmware (378.55) on a RTAC68U router.

Every time I start the traffic monitor (Traffic Analyzer tab) I see network traffic flow anomalies in the form of "giant spikes" (see picture). Moreover the computed cumulative traffic (Total) makes simply no sense (16 GB in few seconds... I'd like it to be true!).

What could be causing such a weird behaviour?

Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55

I can't access Ruttorent WebUI from LAN (192.168.1.1:81/ruttorent) or WAN (myown.no-ip.biz:81/ruttorent)

I installed entware using the easy install script (entware-setup.sh) and Rtorrent using the easy install method:

I see this method is labeled as "Mips only" but i saw some people using it also for ARM Asuswrt routers.

Rtorrent is already running:

Is there an entware package that includes a more beefy version of netstat or a package that contains the ss utility?

Oddly, these exists:

I think this should be possible, but thought I'd ask here before digging in further...

When the internet goes down (Ethernet Wan port) it would be nice if I could configure the router to use my iphone's hotspot via wifi as a backup gateway. Recent ASUS routers have two wifi configurations (2.4 and 5ghz). What I'd like to do is reconfigure one of those to stop being something that clients connect to and instead have it be a client that connects to the iphone. Then use that wireless...

Run php script from the command line

Hi All,
I would like to run a php script from the command line or as a scheduled task. The script downloads and unrar files in a folder. I installed php-cli. Running "php script.php" from the command line didn't work. I changed to "php-cli script.php" and it worked, but after script launched R700 memory used by the script didn't get released. I had about 80MB used before and 210MB after. Any suggestion how that can be improved?

I want to do what's described here with my RT-AC68P. I don't see the VLAN settings option but I'm guessing I can SSH into the router to set that up. Can anybody verify for me that this can be done and maybe outline what I'll have to do? Thanks!

I managed to get link aggregation working with the 68u router model and wanted to share my method in this how-to guide.

Environment

- Router Model: AC68U using ports 3 & 4
- Firmware: Asuswrt-Merlin 376.47 with JFFS enabed
- Switch: Netgear GSM7224R (including other 802.3ad capable switches)

Asus RT-N66U on Merlin 378.54_2 slow speeds

Hi,

I have an Assus RT-N66U running merlin 378.54_2 and I have a Motorola Surfboard 6183 hooked up to RCN's 155/15 connection. When I connect directly to the modem I get speeds anywhere from 178-200+ but once I hook the modem to the router and connect using ethernet on the router I am getting speeds of 95-115. I don't know where I am losing close to 100mbps in my router. I don't know a whole lot about networking so I am kind of new to this whole thing. I am trying to figure out what I can...
