Spanning-Tree Protocol On or Off

I have an ASUS RT-AC87 router with a Netgear 8 port unmanaged switch plugged into the router. The switch has 3 devices plugged into it, 2 desktop computers and a printer. My question is, should I have Spanning-Tree Protocol turned on or off?

The reason I ask is because I believe if Spanning-Tree Protocol is off the router will start to use FA (Flow Accelerator) Hardware NAT acceleration which could speedup the router a little.

I did some searching but most stuff I find about Spanning-Tree...

ASUS AC68U hardware revision C1

I've been hearing that a new hardware revision is on it's way but also read on the web that Merlin firmware is not compatible with the C1. Is this accurate? if so, will Merlin develop a firmware that will be compatible w/C1?

ipv6 issue

I have RT-AC66U, and few months ago I've enabled ipv6. It's been working fine for many months.

Yesterday I needed to test some software with ipv6 and i realized i don't have IP assigned.

at this point I had 380.59 installed and ipv6 page was showing blank for LAN IPv6 Address, LAN Prefix Length, LAN IPv6 Prefix. I've sshed into router, ipcofnig was showing just local link.
I've restarted router, router modem, modem router, disabled enabled ipv6, nothing helped. At this point I've installed...

I have a Playstation TV/Vita TV (please don't stop reading here) that I use for streaming my PS4 games when I want to play upstairs. The PSTV only has Wireless N and the streaming works MOST of the time. I have tested it connected directly over Ethernet, and all my issues go away... BUT, I am not cabled upstairs. I am using an RT-AC87U as my router, and someone gave me a RT-AC68U that I would like to use as a media bridge for the PSTV. when I try and connect through, the PSTV is unable to...

noob question about setting up vlan, iptables etc

Hi all

I don't have too much experience with vlan and iptables, so please bear on with me (I tried to search in the older posts, but found it to be difficult to find exactly the answers I've been thinking about). I'm running asuswrt-merlin on Asus RT-AC87U (with entware installed). First, I wish to understand and therefore I have some questions:

  1. When I change something in the webgui 192.168.1.1, the router automatically changes IPtables, right (e.g. add new wireless channel)?...

Router: RT-AC68R/U
Firmware: 380.58
Bootloader (CFE): 1.0.2.0

I have notebook with a "Intel Dualband Wireless-AC 8260".
The wireless card is connected to the 5Ghz band to my router.
When I download or upload a file to my NAS on the same network, the network throughput is limited to about 15-18Mbyte/sec.

These are the 5Ghz WLAN settings on my router:
Wireless mode: auto
Channel bandwidth: 80Mhz
Control channel: auto

Wireless client is a "Acer Aspire VN7" notebook with Linux installed.

WiFi Scheduler

Hi Folks,

i would like to use the WiFI scheduler function on a Asus N66U router with 380.59 fw on it, but as far as is can tell it is not working. I've had set to turn off the WiFis at 11 oclock but the wifi was working after eleven oclock too.
Could you please tell me do i have to switch on something else too to turn the wifi off automagically?

AIProtection blocking DNS from Synology

I'm using my Synology NAS as my DNS server. Unfortunately, AIProtection is blocking many DNS queries. It's not all DNS queries, mind you, but a number of them.

I have an RT-AC5300 (although I had this same, exact problem with my RT-AC87U). Using 380.60beta2.

Has anyone experienced this? Can you shed any light? Unfortunately, AI Protection has so few options, there's not much of an opportunity to reconfigure it to tell it to ignore this. I've already set it up in DNS to let this MAC...

I know a little bit about VPN setups...emphasis on the "little" word.

Here is the situation: I had not used my VPN setup for a while (though it worked before), but an email problem caused ISP to change my public WAN IP, so I know I had to edit the configs in clients.

VPN server is the built in one in ASUS-wrt Merlin 378.56_2.( in AC68U).
Clients are a Galaxy S3, and two Samsung Tab 4's.
All have had working configs in the immediate past, though not used recently.

trouble with ddns on my ac68u

I am currently running Merlin 380.59 firmware and am trying to get ddns to update my dnsomatic account. (I can actually get it to update using cUrl). I use "all.dnsomatic.com" for the hostname and I get this error in the logs :

Aug 10 11:09:18 ddns update: connected to updates.dnsomatic.com (67.215.92.215) on port 80.
Aug 10 11:09:18 ddns update: invalid hostname: all.dnsomatic.com

Anyone have any ideas whats going on here?

I am using the most current version of merlin wrt on my RT-N66U dark knight. I need to configure it to connect to a VPN service such as Hide.me

I was looking at the instructions for OpenVPN here but 1) they seem a bit esoteric, and 2) not sure they would translate exactly when using merlin wrt.

For those who have the same router/firmware as me, can you please share the best way to accomplish this VPN config... or alternatively, I am...

Hi,

two questions

1. Do I need to keep the NAT acceleration enabled if am using the Asus router AC68U latest firmware 380.61 in AP mode? I have not found any specific articles to AP and NAT acceleration but would assume it can be disabled?

**** Update, I decided to disable the NAT acceleration but I have no option to re-enable it. In fact I can no longer see any of the LAN options as I did for jumbo frames, NAT acceleration or spanning tree. I do notice better performance but the CPU...

MerlinWRT RT-N66U & Wi-Fi Drops

Hello.
I have 2 routers, they are running on Merlin WRT, since this spring, when i am did upgrade to latest fw, i got periodical disconnects of Wi-Fi in 2.4 range.
I have a zoo clients:
Samsung Galaxy s5
Samsung Galaxy s5
LG Smart TV
Centrino 6235
Centrino 2230
iNext HD1
ASUS PCE-AC68 802.11ac

So when 2230 drops connection PCE-AC68 drops it too in 5Ghz Range but then restore it with zero bytes counter, but 2230 didn't see my network at all, router shows long uptime.
Same for Smart TV....

someone can change firmware VLAN code?

hello, i need to have different VLAN ID for internet and IPTV....if i use settings from webui then they have same VLAN ID and that is problem for my nonstop disconnectivity....is here someone who can look inside firmware`s VLAN code and compiled just for my case? here is how looks now....

so, WAN for internet and LAN4 for IPTV(udpxy) have a same VLAN (2)....but i think i need VLAN (1) on LAN4 port....

dropbearconvert broken?

I appears that dropbearconvert doesn't work. It does no conversion and just prints the following output:

3T drive no longer recognized.

After upgrading to 380.61 my 3T drive stopped being detected. I tried everything and on the USB 2 or 3 sides would not work. My drive is formatted with the 4096bytes. No matter what I do the drive will not mount. Please help!
