Bug: Samba/FTP users disappear when I change password

I'm experiencing a strange bug in Asuswrt-Merlin 384.17.

I am able to add users to the list of Samba/FTP users, each with their own passwords and access rights.

However, when I change a user's password, if that password has more than a few special characters in it, for some reason, all of the users disappear and that user becomes the "root"/sole user (whose password now can't be changed).

I can't quite isolate the exact conditions under which this happens, beyond that it only occurs when...

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post in this forum but I am actively developing some shell scripts for DD-WRT at their forum since 2006 with same username. I bought ASUS RT-AX86U a week ago and I flashed with Merlin's firmware. OpenVPN ressetting on RT AC 87U

Hi


I tried to to upload 3 times openVPN settings and all 3 times my router resetting to default.

I use Merlins 384.13_10 on my RT AC 87 U,Diversion,Skynet.Everythings is OK but settings open VPN/NordVPN/.

After setting openVPN/browse ,then cz34.nordvpn.com.udp.ovpn,upload,complete and by 10seconds shutdown to default settings.

MTU setting

Hi,
I have an Asus RT-68P connected to my ISP modem. The ISP modem says the MTU setting is 1492 which is the correct amount for my ADSL line..but the router says 1500.
When I check in CMD using "netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces", I get 1500.

I have tried to change the MTU setting to 1492 at the router level, but it won't make a difference, it still comes back as 1500.
Any ideas?

AC86U - Lose WiFi on all devices - Disassoc Event Spam - Upgraded from 384.17 to 384.19

This started happening as soon as I upgrade from 384.17 to 384.19.

About 10 minutes after a reboot the log is filling with this message for every WiFi device every ~30s or so:
Dec 13 10:38:28 wlceventd: WLCEVENTD wlceventd_proc_event(481): eth5: Disassoc [redacted], status: 0, reason: Disassociated because sending station is leaving (or has left) BSS (8)

After about 30 minutes of this log spam all my Android devices and Google home devices lose WiFi and I have to reboot the router...

Install on two different router models connected via AI Mesh

Hi,
i am running AI Mesh on two Asus router ( RT-AC68U and RT-AC86U (main router)). So how would this work best if i want to install the 386 version?
Install merlin on 86 and its installed automatically on the 68?
Or do i have to install it manually on both? If so, is there an order which works best?

QoS does not handle youtube upload

Family member is uploading a video from his phone to YouTube. The setting in QOS is Adaptive/Gaming, FlexQoS is installed, but the game (WorldOfTanks) on a Windows desktop gets ping 1+s. I'd say, QoS is not doing its job.

Perhaps even more important, router's webui became practically non-responsive either, so it's not even possible to check what is going on.

RT-AX88U can't keep settings through reboots

Hi,

Got my RT-AX88U for some time now, flashed with Asuswrt-Merlin after the very first boot.
Everything was fine, I was on 384.19, got AMTM, Diversion, everything working nicely.

Today, a reboot happened and I faced the "Welcome to RT-AX88U" screen that prompts to setup a new network (http://router.asus.com/QIS_wizard.htm?flag=welcome).
I really don't know what's happening. I tried to reset it, I've changed to 386.1_beta1, I even changed to stock Asus firmware.
Every time...

Hello.
I am equipped with an ASUS AC68UF router located behind a box. I also use a VPN to access the Internet (PROTONVPN in this particular case). I switched to Merlin firmware because of the possibility to specify which devices connected to the local network will go through the VPN and which other devices will go directly to the WAN. My first attempt was not very happy: I had no more access to anything and I had to reset the router. Before trying again, I would like to avoid the same...

Failover WAN and DNSFilter issue

I have a USB 4G modem setup as a Failover WAN connection. My main internet failed today and it failed over to the USB modem as expected.

However DNS stopped working. I have the following settings that I have setup to force my family through the CleanBrowsing DNS filtering:

WAN DNS Setting
Connect to DNS Server automatically - No
DNS Server1: Cleanbrowsing custom IP
DNS Server2: Cleanbrowsing Custom IP
Forward local domain queries to upstream DNS - No

DNSFilter - ON...

Recently I started to experience a problem where bot CPUs get 100% utilization and I'm pretty certain it is related to my external USB drive. It appears to me that the CPU is mainly used by /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s /etc/smb.conf (see attached) and I have constant logs like Dec 7 11:01:40 RT-AC86U-4AB0 kernel: bcm63xx_nand ff801800.nand: intfc status c80000e0 (see attached). I have done the health-check and reformatting the USB drive and disable and enable SAMBA (or any changes...

Hello,
I'm unable to figure out how to properly configure my RT-AC68U for WAN via my Android phone on AT&T.

Details:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S8 (AT&T branded)
ISP Provider: AT&T cellular
Mobile plan: Yes it allows for hotspot WiFI tethering and USB tethering (tested directly on laptop via both WiFi hotspot and USB tethering)
Router: RT-AC68U
Firmware: Asuswrt-Merlin 384.19 (factory reset and erased all settings) using no mods - using default configuration, nothing has been changed from...

Hi,

ASUS RT-AX88U, AUSWRT-Merlin 384.19.

I installed QBitTorrent in a Container on my QNAP TS-253Be

I'm certain I've set it up correctly and followed all instructions carefully.

The Torrents I'm downloading have enough people seeding, but after I add a torrent it starts to download then drops off and stalls. I've tried about 10 different torrents with hundreds of people seeding, and they all do this. (See the QBitTorrent Full Screen image below).

Asus ac88u router

I would like to create a mesh with another asus router. I currently have an Asus ac88u router with Merlin firmware and an Apple Extreme setup as bridge. Any recommendation as to which router to get? I was told that AX routers don’t work well with AC routers. Is this true? Should I stay with AC routers? I am limiting my budget to $200. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I'm a long time basic user of alternative Merlin firmware for my Asus router and for the first time I have uploaded a beta firmware (361.1 beta2). My router is working but I'm not able anymore to access my router web page. I can see the login/password page but after entering correct items, the page remain blank, that means I can not change anything on my router anymore.
I have the asus android app too on my phone but when trying to access my router, I got the message "...

Stopping DNS over HTTP bypassing DNSFilter

I am using Cleanbrowsing DNS servers (set as WAN DNS) and then using DNSFilter to Global Filter = Router. This seems to work great for filtering and stops bypassing even if a client sets their own manual DNS servers.

There seems to be one way to pretty easily get around the DNSFIlter though and that is to set the "Use Secure DNS" setting in Chrome to point to an unfiltered DNS server.

I saw the WAN setting "Prevent client auto DoH" and set to "Yes" assuming that this would block the use...
