Two AX86U Aimesh @2.5G Ethernet backhaul possible?

Just got me a second Rt-AX86U set up as AImesh node. Running Merlin 386_beta1 on both RT-AX86U.

Under the Aimesh node management settings, under Connection Priority, there are three option: Automatic, 1G Wan Only, 2.5G Only (Ethernet Backhaul Mode enabled)
I have tried both Automatic and 2.5G only but cannot get the 2.5G connection working.

I can see that the Lan 5 port is connected at 2.5G on the main router when connecting backhaul cable to the 2.5GLan port on both routers.

Apply setting updates instantly

Is there a way to apply a setting or config change instantly? Or force it to apply on demand. For example, if I disable internet access on a device it always seems to take a while for the change to take effect. The only way I've found to apply changes like this more instantly is to reboot the router, but then that disrupts the whole network and isn't ideal. Would there be a script command or some sort of soft reboot or refresh that I could run?

OpenVPN ressetting on AC68U

Hey all.

I tried to to upload 3 times openVPN settings and all 3 times my router resetting before I had any chance to do something??

I use Merlins 384.3 on my AC68U.

Any Idea to stop the ressetting?

What’s best, a merlin kill switch or a socks5 proxy acting as a kill switch?

Which one is most reliable? I assume the Merlin kill switch works by checking every few seconds if there’s a VPN connection, so in that sense the proxy should be more reliable, but does the proxy have negative sides the router-based kill switch doesn’t have? Does the proxy interfere with the VPN?

AX88U loses just the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi between 4am & 9am

AX88U running ASUS Merlin 384.19 keeps losing the Wi-Fi regularly between around 4am & 9am.

I either have to reboot the router or use the Wi-Fi button to turn off Wi-Fi then press again to turn it back on.

Doing either of the above restores the 2.4GHz wireless network until it occurs again, either fairly quickly afterwards or around 4am the next day.

Been happening for the pass few days and does not affect the 5GHz wireless network.

I only know when it's happen as all my 2.4GHz devices...

Guest network question

What's different with guest networks? Using it to segregate IOT traffic and suddenly a thermostat that was working fine went south. Moved it over to the internal network and everything is hunky dory. Interface gives me little info on the thermo to figure it out. All I was trying to do we limit the device to internet access only. Are there protocol differences, DNS, etc? In the interest of working this through, is there a primer for TCP dump on the router if I wanted to really dig deep?

Hi guys,
New poster here but long time lurker.
I have a specific project I can’t find a solution for so I’m coming here.

Objective: using a ASUS router I have. or even just a windows 10 pc I have, I’d like to have a ssid that people can join and are redirected to a web server/ip address on the local network.
Caveats: there is not, nor will there be any actual internet connectivity. That presents a problem everything I try captive portal

Install on two different router models connected via AI Mesh

Hi,
i am running AI Mesh on two Asus router ( RT-AC68U and RT-AC86U (main router)). So how would this work best if i want to install the 386 version?
Install merlin on 86 and its installed automatically on the 68?
Or do i have to install it manually on both? If so, is there an order which works best?

AiMesh Nodes Not Showing

Good morning. Forgive me if this is not the correct place to ask or if this has been covered already. Just joined the forum. I installed the 386.1 beta last night on my core AC 5300 router and was not able to search or add any AiMesh nodes to that router. Almost as if the router was not seeing the nodes post firmware update. Would just spin and search wouldn’t return anything. I did reset router post firmware update as well but still no dice when trying to add nodes.
Any thoughts?

I'm starting a new question as my old question was Web Camera related and I was starting to turn into something else.

I've had an Asus RT-AC3200 for a few years now. Thinking it would be a good stable router as it cost a fair bit. It has not been stable, every few months I had to reset the damned thing as it would stop working. I never paid much attention to it, just reset it.

A few months ago, amid a pandemic and being furloughed we had to move house, also internet service provider. So I...

Can't make changes in GUI Administration > Systems

I've read the other threads, but I haven't imported anything from another router or those scenarios. All I was trying to do was turn off SSH, and I get the message, "The account already exists. Please enter a different name", and it won't save my changes. I've rebooted the computer, rebooted the router, and it is still the same. Anybody have a fix?

Just purchased the Asus RT-AC86U but am debating going with the Asus GT-AC2900 to get the extra DFS Channels + 160 Mhz channel width. Those extras are likely to never be used but still nice to have options. With Merlin being in BETA for this GT router helps.

Anyway some feature suggestions:

  1. Search Bar -- a global search bar that when used can help you locate a particular item. Clicking on the item takes you to the tab / area

  2. Internet Traffic Gauge...

Hi! I would like to mount a two samba share from my WDLXTVLIVE. Because I have connected the WDLXTVLIVE to router to ethernet. To copy the data donloaded by transmission from router more stable than wifi.

I looking for it in intenet I found that syntaxis:

Asus AC56U - ftdi_sio.ko module doesn't exist

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Phoenix USB card reader (FTDI FT232R USB UART ). It's not properly detected as GSM modem instead FTDI reader. I dig into google and I found that problem is in ftdi_sio kernel module. I tried to load this module with this command "insmod ftdi_sio" but without any results. My firmware (Asuswrt-Merlin 380.68 haven't ftdi_sio.ko module in kernel). My question is - there is any chance to add this module (driver)? Or maybe someone have already compiled ftdi_sio.ko...

I'm looking to buy ASUS RT-AC68U

Which is quite an old router (2013) but just perfect for the purpose that will be bestowed upon it and at a good price.

Going over Merlin's README, I see that RT-AC68U are still fully supported. Nevertheless, I'm a bit lost by the different models and HW revisions in regards to ~V3:
"RT-AC68U, RT-AC68P, RT-AC68UF (including HW revision C1 and E1)"

RT-AX88U OpenVPN PIA SLOW

Hi,

I have just receive today my RT-AX88U - and i have configure OpenVPN (PIA) - but.....speedtest not up more like 100Mbps.

I have Fiber 500/500 and is working well without the VPN.

I have try some settings i have seen here and another website - but no more 100 Mbps.

I have the latest firmware from Merlin - FRESH install (factory default first) and reconfigure all settings manualy.

Do you have any suggestions or config i can try to have more 100 Mbps ?

Cannot flash Merlin on RT-AX56U V2

Hi, I have been trying to flash merlin to my ASUS RT-AX56U V2.

I've tried rebooting, unplugging, restoring to factory defaults. It doesn't accept the flash.

Is this because it's a V2 variant? I reckon this one is a special one made for China and maybe it's blocking Merlin? Or maybe merlin does not support this V2 model?

Trying to figure out how to solve. Or maybe cut my losses and get a new router (seems like I bought the wrong one?)

I just wanted a router that supports Astill VPN...
