Just thought I'd share this little one-liner script, in case anyone needs to generate random passwords or something.
Code:
openssl sha384 -binary < /proc/timer_list | openssl base64
I've got that in a script "/jffs/scripts/make-random-string":

openssl sha384 -binary < /proc/timer_list | openssl base64
That spits out a 64 character string with a base64 character-set. If you want a shorter string, just pipe the output into "head -c n", like this, for a 12...

VPN Failover script

There was a thread here by another poster. There were some disagreements and that thread was deleted. I found the script by @Martineau on Pastebin, but I have this total inability to grasp scripting so can we bring it back? I'm technically proficient in most things networking, though I am an amateur working on my own network only.

VPN client dedicates for specific IP

I have multiple computers at home with wired connections. My ISP connection is 500M/20M. The average speed with the VPN client turned on is 30M/20M.

My son plays video games sometimes which is sensitive to the ping values. I assume that VPN connection may increase the value. Is possible to make an exception for specific IP traffic that not go through the VPN client?

For two days I have installed the new firmware ..Merlin on an RT-AC68U router.
Now I find myself with the problem depicted in the image.
What can be the cause?
Ps. it also occurred before installing the new firmware!

RT-AC86U running AsusWRT Merlin v 384.9

I would like to disconnect VPN client at midnight and then reconnect VPN at 7am. Can somebody please give me some pointers to where I can learn to do this?
Can somebody please explain how the VPN features are exposed to the cron script variables?

Hi all,

I have A.Merlin 384.13. ( RTAC68U)
I'm using the 192.168.X.X:8081/downloadmaster/task.asp to download ed2k files, but I have to add each one manually. Is there a Webgui for amule ? I've tried on :4711 but it doesn't work

MQTT publish from router not working; what's blocking it?

Somehow I can publish MQTT messages from my Raspberry Pi to my own MQTT broker (on the same Raspberry Pi), but not from my router.

I'm not sure what's wrong. Who can help?

Setup:
  • Mosquitto MQTT server with valid Let's Encrypt certificates on Raspberry Pi on port 8883
  • Personal domain name mqtt.domain.com redirected to hostname.asuscomm.com
  • Port 8883 on router forwarded to Raspberry Pi
  • Entware packages ca-bundle and ca-certificates installed on...

Hi,

This is my first post on the forums, I recently bought a ASUS AC86U to use for with OpenVPN, however I am having an issue and wondered if I am just making a rookie mistake.

I have the VPN working fine and the router set to the following;

Connect to DNS Server automatically - no, using cloud flare dns servers for none vpn traffic.

In VPN settings;
Accept DNS Configuration - Exclusive
Policy rules - strict
Block routed clients - yes

I have set a rule to try and get apple push...

Policy based routing, dns issue.

Latest router recommendation for high speed VPN

Hello,

I am currently running whole house VPN on my trusty AC86U and I get great speeds. I need to purchase another one for another house and would like to know what the best one is these days for VPN?

GT-AC2900?
RT-AX88U?
RT-AC88U?
Others?

Again, running whole router VPN with good speed is key, which is why I run the AC86U. I assume all the other features I need would come with the regular Merlin firmware.

Latest firmware on RT-AC5300 messed up Chamberlin garage door connection

FYI... After I updated to the latest firmware (380.66_6) I lost connection with my garage door opener on 2.4GHz. I tried resetting wifi on the opener and could never connect. After downgrading to 380.65_4 everything worked fine again.

Unable to get AiMesh working with AX88U and AC3100

Hi All,

I've scoured the internet and forums, but could not find the answer to my AiMesh problem.
I have an RT-AX88U (Merlin 384.13) as my AiMesh Router and an RT-AC3100 (Stock 3.0.0.4.384.81116) as my AiMesh node.
Here are the steps I take to set-up AiMesh:
  1. Factory reset the AC3100 and place it within 1 metre of the AX88U router.
  2. On the AX88U, I select the AiMesh menu and search in the "Find AiMesh node" section.
  3. My AC3100 is found and I click Apply to add it as...

Pros/Cons of enabling IPv6

The other morning I enabled IPv6 on my router as a test for another issue. I didn't really know what to expect, and I eventually disabled it and had to reset/restore from backup to get things back to normal with IPv4.

I've read some of the older SmallNetBuilder articles on IPv6. My ISP is Comcast and seems very IPv6 ready. My test-ipv6.com results were all good.

But it was damn scary...

How to set up DNS over TLS 384.13?

Thought I had this figured out in 384.11 but the changes I see in the change log for .12 and 13 and the discussion board have my head spinning.

Could someone be so kind as to please itemize the changes needed to the settings in 384.13 so that DNS-over-TLS is enabled properly in 384.13. Assume we are starting from scratch with the router just having been freshly factory reset. I was going to use cloudflare preset.
