RT-AC88U's Domain Name

Please see attached image. Is a period not allowed?
My router's DNS server (which uses 1.1.1.1 as upstream) wasn't returning a result for my network's domain name until I changed it to 'lan'.
It was working until I updated to firmware v.384.9.

Running the lastest version of Merlin on my Asus RT-AC3100. Runs well but having an issue with a new USB drive. Picked up a cheap ($30) 2 drive USB 3.0 enclosure to handle a couple extra drives I had lying around. Thought it would work well to run media on one of them and backups or something on the other. Not running RAID or anything fancy, just shows up as 2 unique drives when you plug it into a computer.

I plugged it into my router and it just keeps refreshing the admin page. Also seems...

scribe v2.0_1
2019-06-02

scribe is a script that installs syslog-ng and logrotate from Entware. Filters for various common logs are included, and logrotate files to manage those logs.

Requirements
Asuswrt-Merlin version 380.68 or later running on a supported router with Entware installed. jffs scripts must be enabled, although Entware installation should have taken care of this.

5GHz not working

Just got a new AC86U router. Replaced my AC68U - which I made an AP for the other side of the house. Installed Merlin (384.11-2) on the router and all seemed well. Until I noticed that I couldn't connect to the 5G signal from the router. Network analyzer showing I have a strong signal, and I have the the settings of the router identical to the 68U (which continues to work fine). Just to be sure, I gave 5G a unique SSSID, and my devices see the SSID, but none of them will connect to it -...

Security of AsusWRT/Merlin vs OpenWRT/LEDE

Hi, there are lots of articles out there selling the idea of the stock firmware being insecure and promoting OS' like OpenWRT, Tomato, etc. Feature set and performance aside, is there really such significant security benefit to truly non-stock firmwares? Asking because Asuswrt-Merlin is effectively as secure as the stock firmware.

I have experience with both and I like OpenWRT-Merlin for its simplicity, speed, and support for modern devices. At the same time supporting an OpenWRT route is...

OpenVPN from recent Merlin FW or Entware

Hello!

I bought RT-AC86U and want to use OpenVPN.
Want to use libOpenSSL version 1.1.1 which is more secure than 1.0.X.
In Merlin FW are installed both libraries libOpenSSL version 1.1.X and 1.0.X. Which is used for VPN?

Need advice, which one to use: one from Merlin FW 384.11_2 or from https://bin.entware.net/aarch64-k3.10 released may 2019?

Greetings to all, I have create this thread because I would like to share my discoveries and my modifications to improve the DSL-AC68U's temperatures.

I have 4 of these devises all of them are ruining GNUtonWrt(fork of AsusWrt Merlin), so as my good friend GNUton said his thread is about the FW of the device (that has nothing to do with the high temperatures) lets discus about that here.

I am not able to help him with his project because I can't write code but I am pretty good with...

Stubby is an application that acts as a local DNS Privacy stub resolver using DNS-over-TLS. Stubby encrypts DNS queries sent from a client machine to a DNS Privacy resolver increasing end user privacy.

Since Stubby is in the early stages of development, it may not be suitable for non-technical users. To assist users to implement Stubby, I wrote a Stubby installer script to make the process easier.

Hi,

Is it possible to create a guest wifi with LAN access off, and still forward a few devices (like Chromecasts) to be available both from the main Wifi network and the Guest network?

How would this be done?

Thank you!

Slow wired up-link and lower WAN throughput from router than from connected devices

I have an ASUS RT-AC3100 running Merlin 384.10_2. My internet service was recently upgraded to symmetrical Gigabit fiber.

When I connect my laptop directly to the incoming Ethernet link from the fiber switch, I measure throughput of around 930 Mbps up and down.

When I connect the link to the Asus router WAN port and my laptop to a LAN port, I still get 930 Mbps down, but only 250 Mbps up.

In an attempt to debug...

Does any one know what could cause acsd to go hay wire. I have only had issues with it once and it just started happening recently. i have had it happen twice where i have had to go in and end acsd with htop because of strange behavior where it was using up cpu resources. Note: this isn't a critical issue for me, but i just recently started to experience this bug like behavior and i went and did forum research and found a couple of threads where people suggest turning on and off WPS or...

[SOLVED] Can't flash AsusWRT-Merlin

Hi,
I'm not an expert but I flashed some routers in the past years.
I would like to install AsusWRT-Merlin on my RT-AC87 which is currently running the firmware
3.0.0.4.382_51634-g2f3ef81
If I try to upload the merlin trx file I get the "Applying Settings..." screen, but not the flashing new firmware one.
The router reboots, but it's still on the AsusWrt firmware.
I read the wiki for installation but I didn't find any clue.
I already tried 3 times but nothing changed.
Could someone give me...

Setting up IPV6 with DNS-over-TLS

Starting this thread to see if there's any interest in hashing this out. I've kept IPV4 set to OFF on my Asus setup forever. Opening this thread based on this -> https://www.snbforums.com/threads/cloud9-dns.56918/page-7#post-497299

The biggest gotcha in even thinking about IPV6 is from this 2014 article -> https://major.io/2014/09/11/howto-time-warner-cable-ipv6/ (maybe there's newer) The other gotcha is I think each ISP can be slightly different.
