DNS servers in LAN and WAN settings

Hello, SNB! Am I understanding this right?

If I add DNS servers to the LAN > DHCP Server > DNS and WINS Server Setting fields it will pass those DNS servers just to my DHCP auto IP and DHCP manually assigned IP clients and static clients will abide by the WAN DNS settings?

If I add DNS servers to WAN > Internet Connection > WAN DNS Setting all clients will use these DNS servers instead of my ISP's, so static IP, DHCP auto IP and DHCP manually assigned IP clients, unless DHCP...

Hi everyone.

I'm on 380.57 RT-AC87U.

all traffic is routed through a vpnclient.
I'm searching for a way to de/activate a certain vpnclient from within my local network without login in to the router.
sometimes the bandwidth drops to somewhere around 1 Mbit because of vpnservice overload. Then it's best practice to change the vpn server or the protocol or the port. no problem when i'm at home. but if i'm away the rest of my family "suffer" from the bad internet connection. :cool:

I have been having this issue for the past 3 builds actually, but it has gotten worse and I can now replicate it on command with this build.

I have tried it with a multitude of settings, NAT Accel ON/OFF, Upnp, ON/OFFF, TX Burst, Channel This, Channel That, default this, WMM that... you get the point. I've tried it all.

Facts:
1) I can do this will all my laptops (various network cards, all updated drivers).
2) I am on Comcast on a Motorola SB6141, connected directly to the Asus.

WEP instead of WPA AES

With my win 7 notebook I did a search for my routers and my AC87 shows WEP protection, my other router shows WPA.
The neighbour routers shows also WPA protection well most of them.

Forum search are ignored, the search name is too short.

I look into my router 2.4GHZ Wifi shows WPA AES, WDS disabled, so what fools me now?
The settings itself are Migrated from (John's tool) AC66 could that introduce that?

Have anyone some experience on that.

I'm unable to put much time on this project these days due to personal reasons, but I figured it was past time that I at least wrap up the current development code and issue an official release. Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available for all supported models. This release adds support for the RT-AC88U, RT-AC3100 and RT-AC5300.

traffic statistics on AC68U AP mode

Running 378.56_2 on RT-AC68U in AP mode.
I don't seem to be able to get any traffic statistics even though I have enabled it.
I suspect it could be because I am running as an Access Point but would like to confirm that.
Is is possible to get traffic statistics on an AP mode device ?
I have a router running Tomato 1.28 and can see the stats over there, but would like to see it on the Asus AP as well.

I had to switch back to Asus NAT Loopback. Was having internal forwarding issues with my IP cameras, and the second I switch back to Asus, the problem stopped.

So i have rt-ac3200 . i have isp that providing me 50down speed. And the modem itself is a router (Linksys dpc3828s i believe) and now i want to use my ac3200 as a router instead of the bridge/ap. Can i do it? Maybe i must set custom wan ip? And set DMZ to the router ip on the isp router? So i can port forward from the ac3200? Thx

1. Firewall - Network Services Filter On, Whitelist, empty list - no device can get to the Internet
2. Firewall - Network Services Filter On, Blacklist, 192.168.1.100 - only the device 192.168.1.100 can not use the Internet, all others have normal access.

Hi everyone,

I've recently installed merlin on my brand new AC87U, and I gotta say I love it!

A small project I've been trying to do is to have a separate SSID that tunnels all traffic through the OpenVPN client I configured in my router. My idea was the following:
  1. Create a separate Guest network
  2. Specify an IP range, dedicated to this Guest network
  3. Tunnel all IP addresses in this range through the VPN client, using Policy Routing
1. and 3. were easy (3. I tried...

AC-66 rebooting itself every 6-8 days

I have an AC66 runing 378.55 that's rebooted the following date/times this month (according to external syslog):
1/6/2016 at 4:31AM
1/12/2016 at 4:17AM
1/18/2016 at 2:09PM
1/26/2016 at 5:15PM

I know if you look at anything long enough you'll start to see patterns that aren't there - but every 6 days for the first 3 times makes me wonder. Is there anything known in 378.55 that make it worth upgrading to try and fix this problem or would I just be bringing more pain on myself for no gain?

Hello all,

Im planning on buying 2 Asus AC68U models, on will be connected to the main modem of my isp wich gives me a trunk.
One VLAN for internet acces and one separate VLAN for IPTV.
If i place the second the AC68U in extender mode upstairs will the extender mode see both VLAN's and can i asign them the same as on the main router, port 3/4 for IPTV and ports 1/2 for internet acces?
