Asuswrt-Merlin 380.58 is now available for all supported models.

The highlights of this release:

  • Merged with Asus GPL 380_1354
  • New advanced tweaks and settings, under Tools -> Other Settings. This includes a setting to disable the hourly networkmap rescans, which could bring NAS and printers out of sleep.
  • Improvements to OpenVPN support and policy-based routing, such as better handling of DNS servers based on client policies.

AIProtection blocking DNS from Synology

I'm using my Synology NAS as my DNS server. Unfortunately, AIProtection is blocking many DNS queries. It's not all DNS queries, mind you, but a number of them.

I have an RT-AC5300 (although I had this same, exact problem with my RT-AC87U). Using 380.60beta2.

Has anyone experienced this? Can you shed any light? Unfortunately, AI Protection has so few options, there's not much of an opportunity to reconfigure it to tell it to ignore this. I've already set it up in DNS to let this MAC...

Hello,

I'm trying the merlin firmware in replacement from shibby ... I hab a huge multicast problem with shibby and I've given up.

I'm trying to set everything up and I'm facing an issue with the staic IP address. Everytime I'm trying to add an address in LAN /DHCP Server, everything is working fine, I can add the address but when I'm clicking on Apply, I'm going back to the logging screen and lose the modifications

I also try to activate "active manual assignment", but the setting do not...

Random freezing of router RT-AC68U firmware 380.57_0

I have installed the firmware. No problems except that the router it seems randomly stops working. The lights are on correctly but the computer all say no network. Turning the router off/on fixes the problem.

Here is the log between freezes...

[SOLVED] JSON parse failed

I was trying to Change settings in Transmission script and i got this error when tryin to start Transmission again:

JSON parse failed in /opt/etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json at pos 0: SPECIAL_EXPECTED -- remaining text "/opt/etc/init.d/"[FAILED]

I think I read somwhere that you can reset all settings.
Can anyone help me to fix this again please?

port forward to client openVPN

I have a openVPN client and server running in tun mode on two ASUS RT-N66U with Merlin. I have configured the routing tables to allow me to access the client LAN from the server side and the server LAN from the client side.

Client LAN is 192.168.0.0 (opened netmask to 255.255.0.0 on purpose) and server LAN is 172.16.200.0

My goal is to access devices on 192.168.0.0 by forwarding ports from the server wan through the vpn tunnel. My server IP address is dynamic and I use a DDNS service so...

What is ka6inet in WAN authentication settings?

Hi. In WAN page Authentication settings, never had seleced any options, but I've always seen only 802.1X option. Is ot ok that the ka6inet option appears there? I search in google for ka6inet and only obtain russians sites.

I have attached a screenshot.

Can't mount subdirectory in a cifs share

While porting a backup script to the router and trying to mount a windows share on rt-ac56u (380.57) I discovered that I can't mount a subdirectory of the share like I could on desktop linux. For example, for host HH if my share is called SS and the directory at the root of the share is called SD this fails on the router:

OpenVPN question

Dear all,

Just activated the openVPN on my ASUS AC87U router, and its working ok. Firmware version is: 380.61.
I have 2 question.

With VPN connected I cannot:

- use the ASUS router app
- use connectBOT app to ssh my router.

I assume that the IP address provided by the VPN tunnel is different than the DHCP pool.

VPN pool

10.8.0.0 / 255.255.255.248

DHCP pool

192.168.1.2 start 192.168.1.99 end pool.

What can I do?

Me again with more weird configuration :D.

This time I'm trying to setup IPTV VLAN to go to a bunch of rooms in my house without resorting to a smart/managed switch as I found out my RT-AC56U has a VLAN capable switch with supposedly working IGMP Snooping. I'm running Merlin 380.59 latest firmware. It has been working great for me.

My ISP WAN config:
- VLAN 2588 for PPPoE Internet service.
- VLAN 1100 for IPTV service should be bridge to ports for respective rooms.

What I want:

Hello all!
I have a RT-AC56U running an older RMerlin release - 380.57 (I'll look into upgrading when I have a bit of time). I've just enabled openvpn server, configured accounts and downloaded the generated ovpn file to my clients.

The problem is the clients (Android phones) are able to authenticate to the network just by using the ovpn file - no username/password is requested.

Is this how it is supposed to work? Or did I fudge something up in the config?

Point me in the right direction...

Configuring IPv6 neighbor

Hello and apologies if I made an error in topic name; I am not sure about the correct term.
Anyway, my ISP can only provide static IPV6 with/through the use of a neighbor, for which, when I was still using pfsense, I was told to use a "npd -s" command in a startup script. With asuswrt&merlin is it possible to configure this in GUI?
I tried through ssh, but "ndp" seems to be missing in asuswrt&merlin? Or am I doing something wrong? I am not too familiar with linux/bsd/... stuff :-/

I just installed the latest RT-AC3200_380.61_0 firmware, however I cant find wireless repeater mode. I dont want to use WDS to repeat the signals because of its security limitations. Any help would be appreciated.

[Merlin/ASUS ac5300/N66U] How do I effectively '3 router' my network without losing smart-connect QAM speeds and maintain an Isolated Full VPN network as well as and a Isolated Non-VPN network and resolve www.router.asus.com correctly.

I have two ASUS Routers and a FIOS MoCA/Router:

MI424-WR Rev D. (small NAT Table, daily reboots, Needs TV/Can't bridge)
RT-N66U w/Merlin
RT-AC5300 w/Merlin's new ASUS firmware build.

I plan to put Merlin on the AC5300...

Bypassing OpenVPN for certain domains?

Is it possible to configure the OpenVPN to bypass certain domains from all devices connected to the router? I have the AC68P. My issue is that services like Hulu and Netflix block the known gateways so I'm forced to go off the VPN for these services. Can I configure the AC68P (380.61-merlin) to bypass the VPN for a list of specific domains?

Setting up Transmission through Entware

With all the issues with DownloadMaster these days, I decided to write a little guide on how to install Transmission through Entware.

The process is quite similar to the one for Optware, except you'll get a newer version of OpenSSL. I believe this version includes the ASM optimizations that I also use in Asuswrt-Merlin, which should make hashing quite faster.
