Not sure if this is a known issue but for a long time now (probably a year) the Merlin firmwares have had issues on the AC3200 where it drops the DHCP about the 29th or 30th day of the month, every month. The only way to bring the network back up is to reboot the router - it's not even inaccessible via SSH from the Internet, when the desktop is because the desktop is the only device that doesn't loose DHCP for some reason (though websites are inaccessible, and all wifi devices on the Asus...

Android 9.0 Broke Tethering

I have been tethering for years with no problem on an AC56U using a Samsung J7 on Android 7.x.x.
I then swapped to an LG V30 with Android 8.0.0 and all was still great. I updated to Android 9.0 on the V30 and boom, it no longer works. I then tried my LG G7 with Android 9.0 to see if it worked, but it did not either. I swapped back to the Android 7.x.x phone and it is working again.

Both Android 9.0 phones tether fine with Windows 10 though... I also read another thread from a couple...

TIP: How to get your public ipv4 address programmatical

Of course you can open the WebUI to get your public ip address, but how about getting it programmatical?
Actually, it's simple, just add this line to '/jffs/configs/dnsmasq.conf.add':

interface-name=publicip.local,eth0/4

Now you can call:

nslookup publicip.local

or use for instance .Net's Dns class and get your public ip address as a standard dns lookup
This also works for dynamic public ip addresses.
Off course this only works on your lan.

So to solve all the problems with installing dnscrypt with entware (or similar) then setting up various scripts to handle dnscrypt-proxy starting up including the ntp issue, I made my own installer for dnscrypt-proxy.

Requirements:
- ARM or MIPSEL based ASUS routers
- asuswrt-merlin firmwares or compatible
- jffs support and script enabled

Incompatibilities:
- No known issue

Hello. I use Merlin 384.13. Is there a way to enter a system command? I understand Merlin is not WRT however to clarify what I am talking about on WRT is is Administration > Commands. I'd like to install a VPN applet.

Hello Snb community !

I am new to Routers, Assus and Merlin, If i may I have a question for the community.

I understand how to locate and Install software both official and Merlin But in what order.......
I will be receiving my new RT-AC86U this morning here is what i am going to do, please correct me if I'm wrong.

1) Update the 86U with the official software update first through the 86U user control panel.

2) Then reset the unit to a default state

3) Then Install...

Lets Encrypt not updating, or?

Yesterday my certificate expired, The date said 2019/10/6, but it did not autoupdate, I tried to restart my router but It still said 2019/10/6. Then i tried to disable lets encrypt in the gui, and re enable it again, then it got a certificate that says it's expire on 2029/10/7 ?? But if i try to reach my host it still says certificate not valid.
If i Restart the router again, it's back to 2019/10/6. Very weird behaviour, I'm upgraded some weeks ago to 384.13_1 I have a RT-AC87U.

Samba bug with admin login

It looks that while Samba in Merlin shares main admin login and password, the number of SMB connections is limited to 1, regardless of configured in corresponding section of webGUI.

This creates certain obstacles, confusion and panic, when you try to manage your NAS from windows; which often creates several connections with the same active credentials in parallel. Particularly it is killing operation of system software, like backups.

Can anyone help please? I’m using a (new to me) ASUS RT-AC87U router with latest Merlin firmware and ASUS DDNS enabled. It’s been fine for around 3 weeks but now I am getting the following intermittent log message and cannot connect to my OpenVPN server from internet.

RT-AX88U 5 ghz WiFi problems

Just bought a brand new RT-AX88U. Got through the initial setup and immediately upgraded to Merlin 384.9_0. Didn’t change any of the settings but was trying to find the 5 ghz WiFi on several devices that definitely support 5 ghz. Although the router indicated it was broadcasting, no device could see it. I factory reset the router and tried again, still no 5 ghz. I switched over to the Asus firmware 3.0.0.4.384.5640. 5 ghz immediately started working. Must be some sort of bug in...

Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available for all supported models. The main change of this release is the addition of support for AiMesh (both router and nodes) for those models that are compatible (RT-AC87U and RT-AC3200 are not supported).

Update:: 384.13_1 for the RT-AC87U, which resolves AP mode for that model.


This release also includes a number of fixes. The highlights:

Hello,

I was wondering if a checkbox can be added in the DNS Filter page, to also redirect port 853 instead of dropping packets if they're not for the same filter IP? Pretty much all of the preconfigured DNS services now support DoT and DoH, and I run a pihole VPS which I forward my DNS through. Since redirecting DoH isn't an option, I was wondering if you could add a simple DoT checkbox on the page, and change the rule to forward instead of drop. I know it can be done manually, but it...

Similar to yesterday, this morning, my internet was down when I woke up. Yes, the logs say that it's May 4th but this happened today and this is in between log enteries from yesterday and now (after a reboot). This appears to me to be a hack but I'm not positive.

I also see that when I try to post the text from the log that the forum locks me out to protect itself too.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi

I copied/pasted verbatim, the CF example script (here) to update my "A" record.

Edited the respective areas, placed it in my jffs/scripts folder and set it's permissions executable. Now in the logs it says it's failing:
